We still remember the first time we heard a Fight Like Apes song. Like a mini-electro-rock epiphany, 'Lend Me Your Face' blasted out of the speakers like a blustering, demonic admonishment; it was a clarion-call to every other act out there, urging them to sit up, pull up their socks and take-fucking-notice of this band who shun guitars in favour of pots 'n' pans 'n' synths.
And so, to 'Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion'; Entertainment.ie is completely honoured to be assisting the Dublin quartet in the EXCLUSIVE streaming of their debut album. Recorded in Seattle earlier this year with producer John Goodmanson (Death Cab for Cutie, Wu Tang Clan), it's one of the most thrilling releases of 2008 from one of the most genuinely exciting Irish bands in years ? and it's a great privilege to be opening their album account in conjuction with our site. Viva la Ape!
'Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion' will be available to buy from Friday, September 26th, but until then, the only place you can hear it in its entirety is right here, on Friday 19/09/2008.
We're not the only ones who think May Kay, Pockets, Tom and Adrian are the business ? check out what the press in the UK and Ireland have said about 'em:
"The first time I saw them - a year ago in north London - they seemed like too much of a mess to make sense to anyone. It was like watching re-runs of The Goodies. But it turns out I was wrong. Having fallen in love with their two EPs (not to mention an excellent session for my Radio 1 programme) the scales of cynicism have fallen from the eyes. Their songs allude to hate figures and love figures and there is virtually no inbetween. But then Misfit bands don't do 'sitting on the fence.'" ? Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio
"Wow. FlApes go all quiet on us for a few months, beavering away on the UK live circuit, then come back with a quite astonishing bang in the form of this fantastic track [Something Global]. The wackiness has been pegged back and the pop sensibility mined just enough to ensure a guaranteed hit without sinking into indie-pop blandness. Pay attention kids, this is how it's done." ? Hot Press
"Like a lightning bolt striking you when they come on your stereo, a fusion of punk attitude and tunes that just slay you in an instant" ? Beat Surrender
"Genius, pure genius! Child-like attitude given a synth-punk coating, fun, spiky, catchy as fuck and revved to a million MPH! And covering Mclusky as a b-side, marry me FLA!" ? Subba Cultcha
