The world can be divided into two types of people - those who love literature and well, those who don't. Funnily enough, while literature aficionados will certainly be delighted with the Dublin Writers Festival 2014 programme, the diverse range of events, activities and acts taking part may just persuade the hesitant to give the written word another chance.
Needless to say, the Dublin Writers Festival does not only apply to writers; participating alongside over 130 established and emerging authors in over 90 different events over the course of nine days will be musicians, comedians, broadcasters and dancers which doubtlessly nods to the old adage that there will be something for everybody.
The 2014 programme really is chock-full of interesting, different and fun events. At a glance, Jo Baker & Joanna Trollope re-imagine Jane Austen in Dublin Castle on Saturday, May 17th and Gruff Rhys speaks and performs in Whelan's on the same night. Ray Davies speaks with Joseph O’Connor on Monday, May 19th in the National Concert Hall, there's Word in the Liqour Rooms on Tuesday and on Wednesday David Dickson talks 1,000 Years of Dubliners in the Smock Alley Theatre. There's a night of words and music with Viv Albertine, DJ Jim Carroll, Bob Stanley by Pearse McGloughlin and Justin Ground in the Button Factory on the 22nd, a talk on New German Writing - contemporary authors from Austria, Germany and Switzerland the next day, a Comic Strip Workshop with Alan Nolan on Saturday, May 24th and Johnny Vegas is at the National Concert Hall the next day.
Clearly, there is a huge range and variety in this year's programe and seriously, there is a whole heap more besides.
