Kilkenny has become Ireland's animation hub over the past decade with The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and now The Breadwinner earning international awards and acclaim. It's no surprise then that the town is also home to Kilkenny Animated, a festival of visual storytelling.

The 2018 festival will take place between February 23rd and 26th and will feature a host of animators and cartoonists, as well as music and theatre performances.

Nora Twomey, the creative director of Cartoon Saloon, will be introducing the Kilkenny premiere of her new film, The Breadwinner. The film has already been nominated for a Golden Globe and hopes are high for an Oscar nomination to come.

New Yorker Magazine cover artists, Carter Goodrich and Peter de Seve, will be in town to discuss the iconic publication and how they capture the essence of America in the age of Donald Trump.

Sarah Anderson, the woman behind the Sarah's Scribbles cartoons, will be among the artists at the free exhibition that will be running throughout the weekend. Taking place at the Goods Shed, Macdonagh Junction, this is the first exhibition that brings together the artwork from cartoonists, illustrators and animators as a group of outstanding visual storytellers.
