The Make A Move team are committed to nurturing and showcasing the creative talents and skills of a field of arts that is Hip-Hop inspired, and so this ensures the festival will have something for everyone from Visual Art to Discussion forums to Live Music!

From early June there will be workshops on Street Art, Dance and Much more. Culminating in a three day event that will take over the city! Get ready to be entertained.

Make A Move is the brain child of a collective of Community Arts Practitioners, Artists, Teachers, Dancers, and Musicians. After getting together to form a Working Community Arts Group, what became clear was the division that existed between the  Arts establishments and the reality of Culture on the ground. We realize that Arts are an integral part of a healthy culture, and that Community-based Arts provide significant value both to communities and artists, but this marriage between Community and the Arts was not expressed in the mainstream. A sense of Community is developed from a shared experience, finding what is common among us and celebrating that together. At a time when Communities are segregated and increasingly isolating themselves form the once inhabited and lively City  Centre, this seems difficult.  However, there needs to be some way of acknowledging, celebrating and coveting diversity and the vibrant energy that exists with it, as a way of bringing these communities together.

This festival is hoped to be a process and a product of the civic engagement within it. It is focused on providing opportunities for young people to re-claim their cultural identity, redefine what is real for them and celebrate it together, collectively, as a city.
