Jack of Diamonds Rhythm and Roots Festival

The first annual Jack of Diamonds Rhythm and Roots festival takes place August 17th- 19th 2012. This city centre based festival takes place in some of Dublin's best-loved live music venues. It is a multi art form event that will incorporate activities to suit everyone.
Entertainment will include live music, performance and dance workshops, pop up bands, food, busking trails and will showcase stunning visual art throughout. In keeping with the rhythm and roots style, the festivals 1950s theme encourages people to dress up in costume from the era. Organisers of the event will present some of the most exciting, up-and-coming rhythm and roots artists from all over the country and become Dublin city's only rhythm and roots festival.
This three-day multi-disciplinary event endeavors to provide a platform for performers of rockabilly, roots, rock and roll, folk, blues, traditional, bluegrass and country music and will establish itself as an important date on the cultural calendar each year. During the day, Jack of Diamonds Rhythm and Roots Festival will host workshops in; guitar, banjo, mandolin, double bass, harmonica and vocals alongside swing dancing and lyndi hop classes. Sit down pub sessions will also be taking place all day. Pop up busking bands will play music along a planned route through the city to create an inclusive and engaging atmosphere. Applications for music slots have exceeded expectation and more than thirty well known rhythm and roots acts have already been booked.
Eight venues have already come on board (including: The Button factory, The Workman's Club, The Odessa Club, The Stag's Head, The Dame Tavern, Sweeney's Mongrel, The Mercantile and The Grand Social).
