Culture Night 2012, Dublin

Now in its 7th year, Culture Night is back in Dublin on Friday the 21st of September for a cultural extravaganza. In association with Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and The Temple Bar Cultural Trust Initiative this year's Dublin Culture Night will include over 150 free events around the city including live music, tours, exhibitions, workshops and film screenings.
Museums, galleries, theatres and other cultural institutions will keep their doors open that little bit later than usual encouraging people to sample this diverse programme of events and discover Dublin's cultural scene. Free public transport will be provided by Dublin Bus so you can make the most of the night, without spending a cent.
The city has also been divided up into five handy sections so you can plan ahead and fit in as much as possible. Here's snippet of what's on offer in this year's extensive programme of events:
Drop into the James Joyce House of the Dead between 5.00pm and 10.00pm for a free tour, tea and some songs or take part in a visual art boot camp with Adrienne Geoghhegan, hosted in her kitchen from 5.00pm - 7.00pm.
Dublin City Hall hosts a multimedia exhibition tracing the history of Dublin from its foundation in Viking and Norman times right up until present day (5.00pm - 10.00pm) whilst The Copper House Gallery presents a collection of photographic, fine art and editioned prints (5.00pm - 10.00pm).
Temple Bar & North of Liffey
The Gaiety School of Acting will hold a series of free one hour drama workshops every hour on the hour for kids (from 5.00pm) and adults alike (from 7.00pm). One of the night's many outdoor events will take place at Meeting House Square with a screening of Far and Away at 8.00pm and Jessica Casy (in association with Arts & Disability Ireland) at 7.45pm.
North Georgian Quarter
An Post GPO's exhibition "Letters, Lives and Liberty" explores the role of the post office in Irish Life from 5.00pm - 9.00pm and there will be an Irish music, song, dance and storytelling session at Clasach from 5.00pm - 6.00pm.
DanceHouse (Dublin's answer to Pineapple Studios) offer visitors the unique opportunity to drop in on an open studio rehearsal with Ballet Ireland, Company B (youth dance group) or Andrea Novac between 6.00pm - 8.00pm. The Lir (Ireland's new National Academy of Dramatic Arts) has a number of free workshops led by their core, voice, movement and acting teachers encouraging visitors to connect with their creative side (from 5.00pm - 11.00pm).
South Georgian Quarter
Enjoy Poetry Ireland's open mic night with poetry, prose, comedy and some very special guests at The Royal Society of Antiquaries from 6.00pm - 10.00pm or take part in a Post-It mosaic with The Alliance Francaise from 7.00pm - 9.00pm.
