Hannon Hits The Road With A Bang
The Divine Comedy
Neil Hannon and The Divine Comedy have been responsible for some of the most literate and downright catchy popular music of the past couple of decades. Hannon's songwriting genius has taken him from writing the theme song of Father Ted to the smash–hit National Express to the Duckworth-Lewis Method. Having put away his cricket pads after that recent sideproject, Hannon has written a wonderful new album with a cast of eccentric characters and classic melodies populating the 12 stunning tracks that make up 'Bang Goes The Knighthood'. It's a parallel universe filled with the likes of 'The Complete Banker', a scathing lampoon on the financial world; 'Neapolitan Girl', inspired by Norman Lewis' Naples '44' wartime diaries; while the title track asks why the rich & powerful so frequently turn up in houses of ill repute. Neil has also been busy writing the music for an adaptation of Swallows and Amazons, which will run in December and January in the Bristol Old Vic Theatre. Catch him touring with the Divine Comedy at venues in Dublin, Drogheda, Waterford, Kilkenny, Birr, Killarney and Cork this September and October. See our gig listings for more details.
