Halloween: Resurrection
There's really no excuse for this. The eighth entry in the series, Halloween: Resurrection is perhaps the most derivative horror film in years (which, considering some recent efforts is quite an achievement). Opening with a hackneyed prologue, which sees serial nutter Michael Myers finally getting up close and personal with Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), the action soon slides over to some new characters. Freddie Harris (Busta Rhymes) and his girlfriend (Tyra Banks) have set up an Internet contest where six teenagers are picked to spend the night in the house where Michael Myers killed his older sister all those years ago. Thing is, the indomitable Mr Myers still lives in the derelict house and doesn't like company.
On the evidence of the above, it really shouldn't come as a shock to note that Halloween: Resurrection is a film utterly devoid of artistic merit. Yet it wouldn't be quite as disagreeable if the filmmakers had injected a bit of humour to the proceedings and played things off for a laugh. Unfortunately, the only concessions they make are bog standard ones that merely highlight the film's appalling lack of imagination. And don't even get me started on Busta Rhymes' performance.
