National survey reveals Dara O’Briain Is Ireland’s most refreshing personality.

A national poll conducted by Carling in its mission to discover Ireland’s most brilliantly refreshing celebrity has found comedian, broadcaster and science boffin Dara O’Briain to be Ireland’s most refreshing personality. As one of Ireland’s best-loved exports Dara scooped the coveted title of Carling Ireland’s most brilliantly refreshing celebrity with 21% of the vote, in recognition of his razor sharp banter and acerbic wit. President Michael D. Higgins with 16%. President Higgins was a close second who recently won legions of new fans at home and abroad when his awe-inspiring tirade at a US Tea Party sympathiser went viral on a huge scale in the last month. Michael O’Leary came in third with 14%, is irreverent Ryanair boss. He might have fallen out of favour after ‘Toilet Gate’ when he threatened to charge us for using the bathroom on his planes but for his chicken costumes and love of controversy, the Irish public recognise that he is brilliantly refreshing versus other corporate executives.

The nationwide survey sought to identify Irish celebrities who are famous for their open, unique and sometimes controversial views. The announcement of the survey results heralds the launch of Carling’s new Have the Next One on Us campaign which is running in outlets all over Ireland during September. Carling discovered that we have no shortage of brilliantly refreshing and honest celebs and here is the view of the people of Ireland…

Sport - In the sporting world, Katie Taylor fever lingers on and the Olympic sensation was the stand out winner with a whopping 64%. The golden girl from Bray knocked out competition from soccer legend Roy Keane with 16% and sports presenter, Bill O’Herlihy with 7%. Music - Mullingar heartthrob Bressie didn’t pull any punches when he was judge on RTE’s The Voice and he tops the poll with 28%. Middle-aged music moguls, famous for their campaigns for Third World rights, Bob Geldof and U2 frontman Bono took second and third place with 26% and 17% respectively. Politics - In politics, there were no surprises when our President Michael D. Higgins topped the poll with a massive 44%. Independent TDs Shane Ross and Ming Flanagan came second and third with 17% and 15%. Broadcasting - Not afraid to tackle the most elusive politicians with her probing questions, the nation’s best-loved broadcaster and yummy mummy Miriam O’Callaghan took first place with 29%. Journalist and broadcaster, Matt Cooper came in second with 26% while feisty former Apprentice contestant and Republic of Telly star Jennifer Maguire came third with 12%.

And the most brilliantly refreshing taste? An ice-cold beer was a close second to water with 24%, followed by soft drinks at 20 %. When asked what activities offer guaranteed refreshment, the Irish public demonstrated themselves surprisingly wholesome, voting taking a dip on a hot day. A walk or jog came in second at 26% while enjoying an ice-cold pint after work was third at 21%.

Massive congratulations to Dara on winning the accolade of being Ireland’s most brilliantly refreshing celebrity. We’re huge fans of Dara’s and salute him for his trademark dry wit that’s won him international fame as Ireland’s best-loved comedic export.
