GREG PROOPS | WHELANS, DUBLIN

JUNE 17 (Tickets €17.50) and JUNE 19 (Tickets €10)

AS a kid, one of the TV highlights in our house was Whose Line is it Anyway? every Friday night on Channel 4. For those who haven't seen it, or are perhaps too young, this was an improv comedy show featuring some of the best British, US, and occasionally, Irish comedians.

One of the regulars was the bespectacled American Greg Proops, who is coming to Dublin's Whelans for two nights later this month. Along with Whose Line is it Anyway, he's more recently appeared on the BBC's Mock the Week, hosted by our very own, Dara Ó Briain, and also The Bigger Picture with Graham Norton.

The first night of his Dublin appearances, on Sunday June 17, (tickets €17.50) will see the comic perform his current stand-up show, which features an unpredictable blend of highbrow, lowbrow and swear words.
Proops is known for his improv, sketch and stand-up skills, so if his back catalogue is anything to go by, it promises to be a funny and entertaining gig. His second appearance (tickets €10), two nights later on June 19, promises to be something a little different.

Audience members can sit-in as the funnyman records the latest episode of his popular podcast series, The Smartest Man in the World. Here Proops, who once brazenly smoked dope on TV on The Green Room with Paul Provenza on US network, Showtime, takes center stage at a small table and chair setup with a single microphone.

Then he's off on an hour of conversation that flies by at breakneck speed. He crams the feeling of a great two-way chat into the lecture-style format of a one-way talk. The show has proven hugely popular and in the past year has been recorded in various locations across the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, Montreal, London, Edinburgh, Cleveland and San Francisco. Now it's Dublin's turn.
