The Comedians of Father Ted
Joe Rooney, Patrick McDonnell, Kevin Gildea
The Laughter Lounge, Dublin - 21/23 April - €26 - 8.30pm
Of all the comedy on offer at the Laughter Lounge Dublin, you'd be half mad to miss out on this lot. Maybe you watched a few episodes of Father Ted and laughed a little. Maybe you laughed a lot. Maybe you were so obsessed with the series you filled in a subscription for feck.net so you could keep up with all Craggy Island goings on although you know deep down it's not a real place. Maybe, on rare occasions, you're partial to a tipple of toilet duck. Whichever category you fall under, you're sure to enjoy this Laughter Lounge special that brings the best of Father Ted under one roof for a night of unforgettable comedy.
Joe Rooney: Best known for playing the Dublin gurrier priest "Father Damo" that convinced poor Dougal to pierce his ears, Joey Rooney has been in the comedy business for years. Having worked as a stand up, a voice over artist, a writer and actor, he's got more than a few accomplishments under his belt. His charismatic stand up style is a mixture of hilarious observations on modern Ireland - be it our growing melting pot of multiculturalism or the quirky medicine alternatives taking over the nation - not to mention his side-splittingly funny musical parodies. As a stand up, he has appeared on TV many a time and has toured all over the UK, Europe and Ireland. His sketch show with Patrick Mc Donnell at the Edinburgh Festival garnered rave reviews.
Patrick McDonnell: Patrick first wooed Mrs Doyle as Eoin McLove on Father Ted. She loved him and you will too. Since appearing in Ted, Patrick has had a highly successful career in comedy portraying many hilarious characters on Naked Camera or more recently The Savage Eye. Like Rooney Patrick too is no stranger to Irish television screens but it's on the stage that he really shines. Come and experience his unique brand of stupendously bizarre comedy in the flesh - ah go on go on go on.
Kevin Gildea: He was Father Cave in Father Ted and packs over 20 years of comedy experience into his super, skinny jeans! Kevin Gildea is a comedian, writer, actor, reader, founder of the hit sketch group Mr. Trellis with none other than Dougal himself! They also co-founded The Comedy Cellar, Dublin's longest-running comedy club. These guys do it all! Gildea has performed his fantastic observation and explosively funny stand-up all over- Shanghai, Bangkok, Dubai, South Africa, Vietnam and Portloaise. Rumour has it he's so funny an audience member actually exploded with laughter during one of his gigs in Portlaoise. Worth checking out? I think so.
