As a fan of comic books/graphic novels & the subsequent adaptations for the cinema I watched this film in anticipation of Hellboy 2:The Golden Army as I generally prefer to have the full story before going to see a sequel. The opening sequence set in WW2 with the allied forces attempting to foil a Nazi plot to open a portal to Hell/another galaxy/time is supreme & sets the film up well although it never quite reaches the heights set by this tantalising opener. Ron Pearlman is fantastic as the moody but loveable Hellboy. The action scenes are brilliant & some of the one liners from Hellboy can be hilarious but it does drag a little towards the end & could have done with being a little bit shorter. Looking forward to Hellboy 2 having seen this!
