Charlie Wilson's War
Brilliant and Thought Provoking - jennith
This is based on the True story of Congressman Charlie Wilson who decides to arm the Afghan Rebels and help defeat the Soviets. Charlie Wilson seems to have lead an interesting life and some of the tings he did were not even put into the film. Charlie Wilson is played brilliantly by Tom Hanks, Charlie Wilson is based in Texas and he has no\problems and neither does his voters he is the safest seat in America this has allowed him to run up a lot of favors and influence. Charlie Wilson though does like a drink and he loves women and when we first meet him naked in a hotel with 2 women he seems an unlikely hero. He is persuaded to go to Pakistan and see the situation in Afghanistan and this is were he decides that he must do something. He Meets up with a CIA Operative called Gus and they go about raising half a billion Dollars which leads to the defeat of the Soviet Army. Hanks is brilliant as is Hoffman and this is not a boring political thriller it is a fast paced funny movie with a good plot and strong ending, the film pulls no punches on US policy or track record.
