Downton Abbey - Series 1
classic! - Sarah
Beautifully written by Julian Fellows this period drama begins with the tragic sinking of the Titanic. The unfortunate news that the heir to Downton was aboard throws the Grantham house into turmoil.
The action does not entirely focus on the wealthy and well-to-do Crawley's, the happenings downstairs are just as fascinating and enthralling.
There are characters you love from the off, such as the very proud Mr Carson, the butler and the hilarious Dowager Countess Lady Grantham, played by the wonderful Maggie Smith. There are a number of villains too, which of course thickens the plot greatly.
The first series spans from 1912 to 1914, and ends with the start of the Great War. We see how certain events affect the family, and their servants.
Downton Abbey has to be one of the best period dramas made for TV and with such wonderful writting and lovable characters, you are left waiting for more!!!
