One of the curses of Hollywood movies can be filming by committee and then what you see is an end product which has been passed through dozens and dozens of suits along the way and them having the job of trying to make the audience not see anything too practicable or give away too much to the movie. However whatever John Carter is, and it is many things, it certainly is not a film by committee. John Carter is very much the vision of just one man, which is very refreshing I must say. The man is question is Andrew Stanton, who has come up through Pixar and we hear that Andrew has always wanted to make this film. He had the thought for it way back when he was a young child. And what is funny about this film is that is if you took a smart and imaginative eight year old back in the 1970's and gave him 250 million dollars, yes 250 million dollars that is what this movie cost. And said there you go make a movie. This is pretty much what you would get. The dialogue is terrible, the acting is even worse, the good guys only real skill is that he can jump really high, the bad guys have this super weapon that just looks like a big blue electric, death ray finger. I'm saying all this and it sounds terrible, but despite all is this or maybe in a weird way because of all this i found it very enjoyable for most parts. I would say it is a 250 million dollar B-movie with a huge streak of madness running through it. it has been at times compared to Avatar, it couldn't be more different. There is something really old fashioned about this film and if Avatar was a machine then John Carter is a contraption. This movie at times did remind me of Flash Gordon, but come on, Flash Gordon was thirty years ago. I don't want to slate this film too much cause i did find it at times very good, but there is times were it is also incredibly dull. With the visionless landscape and that I was thinking what was the point in making it 3D, as I have thought about many films that get 3D just added on.  In twenty years time we will probably still be talking about John Carter, thing is I don't know what we be saying about it, but they will be talking about it.  A proper deranged vision of a movie, but not as bad as everyone is saying. Go see it, but don't bother with the 3D
