Scooby Doo is an enjoyable film and does an exceptional job of translating the material from cartoon to film. Its cheesy and simplistic but overall its a fun film. It never tries too hard to be much else and has its tongue firmly in its cheek concerning the material. The casting is spot on, everyone involved has done their homework and embodies the Scooby Doo gang to a 'T'. Freddie Prince Jr. portrays the group's handsome but not so clever leader, Fred. Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has some fine moments and memorable lines, truly encompassing that '60s girl next door with an edge of the feminist about her. Linda Cardellini is endearing as the nerdy Velma, she is absolutely gorgeous. But at the heart of the Scooby Gang is Shaggy and Scooby himself. Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, interacts with the CG animated Scooby very well, it is never awkward and never obvious that Scooby isn't really there. The soundtrack sticks out, a good selection of catchy modern summer songs that really emphasis the fun quality behind this movie. There are people who will not like Scooby Doo simply because of the 'feel' to the film but that is their loss as Scooby Doo is a an adaptation that has spirit.
