I don't know where the EI reviewers get their breathless admiration for the Apatow crew - like "Knocked Up" I found this comedy on the whole pretty bland and forgettable. Every so often there may have been a glimmer of a mild laugh but the movie dragged, the characters were bland and the script-by-numbers so contrived that you didn't really care what happened in the end. Put this alongside fine US comedies like Juno or Lars and the Real Girl and its lack of substance is more obvious. It's comedy written by corporate committee informed by focus groups.
