Director of Memento Chrristopher Nolan makes this fantastic drama that feature two very different magicians who are battling for supremacy in a dark turn-of-the-century Victorian world. Angier (Hugh Jackman) holds Borden (Christian Bale) responsible for the death of his wife during a magic trick gone fatally wrong, so he goes out to prove his superiority on the stage, Angier is all flash and little substance and Borden is a great technician but he is a terrible showman. Soon enough the two mens rivalry gets out of hand. It then all gets wonderfully complex with plenty of twists and turns. There are also some superd cameos from Michael Caine, David Bowie and Andy Serkis. The whole film looks and sounds fantastic. With plenty to admire, its easy to see why this top-notch thriller was one of the top movies of 2006.
