Ghost Rider
Yippie yi yaaaaay - Cactuskiller
When dealing with comic book anti-heroes a certain amount of belief suspension is expected and even relished, by night grinning skulls blaze a trail of firey retribution through the bodies of ne'er do wells while by day alter egos struggle with their inner demons/skeletal systems to the strains of Karen Carpenter. So far so funtastic, and Ghostrider is fun for the most part, but constant references to Nicholas Cage's Johnny Blaze as a "kid" (the man is 43 for pity's sake) soon begin to jar as do the tired special effects (the budget having been blown on Cage's unholy hairpiece, rippling plastic pecs and suspected hip removal to fit into those leather pants). As for the supporting cast nobody could deny she's a fox but would somebody do something about Eva Mendez's T-Zone? The constant oil slick pours from her greasy forehead and down her straining bosom like the trail of destruction left by Johnny's Harley from Hades. Peter Fonda's jaundiced Mephisto aka The Devil, should be getting death threats from the Justice for Gingers refuge while Blackheart (Wes Bentley)'s weapon of choice - death by multiple thread veins to the face (!?), must have lost something in the translation from comic to screen. The strong anti-smoking message incorporated should be applauded however and rated 12A should reach a lot more preteens – remember kids (not you Cage) “your lungs will be stained with the carcinogenic traces of nicotine”.
