As a child I loved reading about boarding schools in Britain,and this film is just like a book by Enid Blyton ,with a bit more sassiness and pzazz.This added ingredient is provided by Emma Roberts,who plays the obnoxiously spoiled brat,Poppy Moore,Her irate father,Aidan Quinn,sends her packing after another of her" wild" escapades,to Abbeymount,a frightfully proper girls'school run by Natasha Richardson,who is slowly but surely morphing into her mother(Vanessa Redgrave). Poppy is horrified by all the stringent rules and regulations,flounces and sulks her way through the school and generally makes herself unpopular and unlikeable. However,in true fairytale(or morality tale!!) fashion,she begins to thaw out,reveal her good side and show that she can be a "good sport "and a" thoroughly good egg",albeit one with an L.A. accent. This film is predictable but it is well acted and directed and will probably appeal to the 10-14 year olds....I enjoyed it and could multiply this category by 4(at least!!!!!!!!)
