worth the watch - simonconnolly
This film is about Michael Newman. He's a architect struggling to balance his home life and his bust work life. Then one day he goes and buys a universal remote control form a crazy inventor called Morty (Christopher Walken). When he uses the remote he realises that it actually controls his whole world. At first he loves the idea. When in a hurry he can fast forward and he enjoys all the little features but soon he runs into some problems. The remote studies his routine and starts to automatically skip large portions of his life. He wants to go back but he just keeps missing more and more of his kids' life and sees his world changing drastically every time he skips. Despite the film being advertised as a comedy it is a lot darker than this. It shows us the little things in out lives that we don't appreciate. Because of the remote Michael can never get dressed again, can never eat, brush his teeth or drive his car etc. He can't do the things we never appreciate, the things you would miss if they were gone forever. Adam Sandler gives a more serious performance here and I was very impressed as he moves on from his previous comedy mistakes. Walken brings his usual brilliance to the film. All in all I really liked it. I had low expectations but it was fairly good. It was mildly funny, thought provoking, entertaining and at times tragic. I mean there was some pretty sad stuff in it. I would recommend it, not as a comedy but as a film with a decent message. I give it 4 stars and it would've been 5 if not for the stupid second ending thing. typical.
