The Love Guru

This movie is 99.9% Mike Myers screen time. From start to finish he is in every scene & says nearly all the lines. I found this movie annoying rather than funny & was very disappointed with the whole thing. Even the gorgeous Jessica Alba supplying the eye candy couldn't stop this shambles from sinking to the bottom of bad movie cesspit. As a matter of fact I thought Justin Timberlake really done well here as Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper Jacques Grande. His scenes were funny & it took me a while to realise it was actually him playing the part. The basic story is centered on Guru Pitka (Myers) who is an American raised in India by Gurus. His mentor is Guru Tugginmypudha (Ben Kingsley) who is guiding him to being the best Guru around (well I think that's what his job was). Throughout this movie there is a play on words & phrases... some are funny but most are not. There is a lot of sexual references in the word play which just gets too repetitive & boring. Pitka goes back to America to break into the self help business & his dream is to get onto the Oprah Windbag show & become the number one Guru in town. After doing a seminar with yet another play on words, for example, he was saying, if you feel you are "nowhere" you can change it to "now here", I though some of this was clever but the good bits were few and far between. He is approached by Ice Hockey team owner Jane Bullard (Alba) to try to help her star player get over his girlfriend dumping him for a rival teams goalkeeper (Timberlake). He has lost all form & the team might lose the cup because of this as he's the leagues best scorer. If he can get them back together he will earn a few million & get on Oprah. Not one to give any spoilers but do you think they will get back together & the team will win the cup? We even had Myers doing bhangra versions of famous songs. These were ok & I particularly liked The Joker, but these rare moments of something good happening couldn't keep this sinking ship afloat. I already had Meet Dave as the worst movie I've seen this year but this one could be even worse than that. The finer points of this movie is Timberlakes efforts & Albas looks, that's about it. Kinglsey didn't appear much but he was funny when we did see him. So the usual Myers formula for box office success has arrived again... I wonder if it's found out this time. I hope it is as I couldn't endure anymore like this... go watch Fair City instead... at least you know it's gonna be crap before you sit down to watch it!
