The Good Shepherd
echos of 'Spy who came in from the Cold' -
The Good Shepard is about a guy deeply involved in the OSS and then the CIA, a total WASP who is emotionally committed to his family and country. Damon did a good job and you felt for his character (although he was less than convincing as a guy pushing middle age). He is getting good scripts these days. HUGE supporting cast with Michael Gambon, De Niro, Baldwin, Hurt, Pesci and Crudup. Eddie Redmayne is naive but perhaps too wide eyed for somebody who grew up in the heart of the CIA. Jolie and Damon always look odd togeher and its not clear if thats intentional. Great ending ! althought without the build up other directors might have given it perhaps because you've spent the past 2.75 hours on the edge of your seat. Not hard to see Eric Roths fingers on the story. Similar style to Munich.
