Hancock is an American romantic comedy/action film starring Will Smith (The pursuit of happyness) and Charlize Theron (The devil's advocate). The film is directed by Peter Berg. The storyline features an man known as Hancock that has super strength/the ability to fly. He is also known to have social/behavioural problems and while he does save lives, he often ends up doing more than just a little damage in the process. When he saves a man from being killed by an oncoming train he is thanked and invited to his home. The man he rescued attempts to help Hancock become a better person and improve how people view him. Now I wish to once again mention that my opinion of Will Smith is a very divided/indecisive one, but thankfully he does a good job of portraying the title character and given the film's different tones shows himself as a very flexible actor. He also fits the role quite well. Hancock has its share of strengths and weaknesses, the film's humour while featuring the odd laugh is mostly rather ineffective in its writing . The movie at first feels like a simple enough comedy , but there is more to Hancock than that , as the film continues the laughs are exchanged for a more serious nature and a storyline that has its fair share of good points and comes off as strong for a film that falls under this genre. The plot has a number of surprises as well. Problem is while it has a gripping introduction scene that catches your attention, the film often feels as if it is taking too long , it isn't for a while that Hancock really kicks in. Some of the early parts of the film/comedy is quite horrible/pathetic. The storyline also feels as if it could have been expanded on and like the movie itself , everything feels much too short. The film is definitely at its best during its more serious/action orientated moments . Hancock actually has a pretty decent soundtrack, however this is quite minor . More importantly Hancock is a spin on a genre that has become rotten and stale. Had the film been more amusing and longer I would have given it more stars but unfortunately that was not the case. Still Hancock, while absolutely not Iron man , is an enjoyable movie, just don't expect to want to go seeing it a second time. I do wonder sometimes if this film would have been better in its content if it had a higher age rating. Verdict: ***
