The Incredible Hulk

I was expecting to have to review this as The Incredulous Hulk, after the last pathetic deplorable outing of the poorest quality 2d CGI ever. But this version of the Hulk is very good for the most part. It begins and ends with references to Stark Industries …for those in the know ; ) The first few minutes it very quickly hints at the background of the creation of the Hulk so as not to bore or insult its audience with background storyline…then its on into the story where we find Bruce Banner hiding out in the depressing surrounds of a Brazilian townscape. Where he practices meditation to control his rage. From here he corresponds with a mysterious Mr Blue who plays a part later and will no doubt feature in the next outing. When the Military who have a keen interest in using the process to create a super Army detect his internet communications they descend on the area and the Hulk makes his first appearance mostly in the shade and hidden from view. The Military pursuit continues through out the next part of the film. Bruce leaves a promising romance behind in Brazil…but then re-discovers an old flame. The film gives a few nods to the original ..see if you can spot them. And has occasions of humour. This film is at its best when neither the Hulk or his Nemesis are on screen. Luckily they didn't trot out the CGI character from the last film, this one isn't great but its an awful lot better…but compare it to Ironman where you could be blissfully unaware that you were even watching any CGI…so better can be achieved! But what lets this film down a little is the pathetic effect of the Nemesis…it looks like a fibreglass mixed with candle wax reminisant of the pathetic Alien at the end of “Aliens 4” that's really really bad, in case you haven't seen Aliens 4. It could also have done without the Hulk Roaring like some demented Lion King. Then there is the ridiculously overdrawn fight scene between the two CGI's that was as exaggerated and overdrawn as those in Spiderman III. A good short fight scene would be better any day! Then there is the failure to establish any motivation for the Nemesis rampage. But apart from those failings…the result is better than you would expect …but not as good as it really should be!
