Babel
Great Acting - Story lacking - ShaneC
My title about sums it up. The miracle is that my attention was held for the entire bum numbing 140 minutes. The movie weaves together four separate but linked story lines. Yes the acting is sublime, but call me old fashioned, i like a great story line and this movie didn't have it - great stories are what makes me go to the movies every week. And if i thought this was the future of movie making, I'd probably stop going.
On the plus side, some of the best acting in this movie wasn't, I felt, done by the famous ones. Instead, it's the performances of a young japanese girl, that of a mexican woman and a young moroccan boy that lingered with me after seeing the movie. It shows that talent comes in all sizes.
In a week that i saw Rocky Balboa, which has a great story but average acting, this movie was a very different experience. Babel is one for the artistic to discuss over lattes, but for plain old fashioned entertainment with a message, give me Rocky anyday.
