From the title alone, John Tucker Must Die hints at the spiky darkness of the cult Winona Ryder - Christian Slater clique-slaying satire Heathers. However you won't find any edge, just fluff in this Betty Thomas-directed confection. Discovering that they are being three-timed by basketball team captain Mr Tucker (Desperate Housewives Jesse Metcalfe), a trio of high-school sweethearts Arielle Kebbel, Sophia Bush and pop star Ashanti - swear revenge on his ass. Set to a soundtrack that encompasses everything from Paul Simon's '50 Ways To Leave Your Lover' to Nelly Furtado's 'Maneater', the scheming involves such inadvisable wheezes as switching steroids for the Pill and the transformation of nice girl Kate (Brittany Snow) into cheer-squad lust-bait. With our heroine turning into a Plastic, the flick steers clos to the funnier Lindsay Lohan comedy Mean Girls. And with a script that struggles to serve up belly laughs, it's often left to the food fights, volleyball smackdowns and spinning the camera in circles to the amusement on offer.
