Whilst not perfect this is a hugely enjoyable piece of carnage from the writer/director of Narc Joe Carnahan. There are an abundance of characters here, and naturally some are more useful than others, while others are just there for pure entertainment value (three mad Nazi geezers). But Smokin' Aces selling point is the outstanding cast (the boy Piven as awesome as always) and the out and out carnage that is handled with which aplomb by the talented director. The real surprise here though is Ryan Reynolds who shows a serious amount of range in a solemn role. He is both understated and consistent in a film full of excellent performances. Comparing it to Tarantino is ridiculous though, the guy didn't event multiple character narrative for Christ sake! Well worth a look.
