Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked
Pleasing for the smallies - Aine
I brought my niece to see this movie recently and she absolutely loved it - so from that point, it definitely fulfills the brief.
I fortunately/unfortunately remember Alvin and the Chipmunks from the original time around so I knew what to expect from an Alvin creating chaos point of view. I didn't really get the whole Chipettes thing but I guess we've got to be PC and move with the times and all of that.
I would also agree with what Mike and other reviewers are saying, why hire well known actors and meddle with their voice
so you don't know who they are from adam?
On the plus - my niece has been humming Bad Romance since seeing it, even if she doesn't know anything about Lady Gaga she at least has been introduced to her music. The music scenes in general were done pretty well. Also you don't need to have seen the first movie or remember them from back in the day to sit through the movie, and it's pretty innocuous for the kids.
On the minus - for an adult the story line isn't say as layered as something like Shrek would be or any of the spin offs and there was no reprive of the Alvin and the Chipmunks original title track (do do dododod do......you know it's in your head now)
I suspect there's going to be another few squeezed out of the franchise yet!
For kids, you could do a lot worse.
