Antichrist
dreadful - mart1n
This film took me quite a while to get into the thick of the story. The plot is all over the place also with twist and turns that never get fully explained. The main story full of holes and by the end you are not any wiser as to why certain aspects of the story were included. While the basic concept is fine about a grieving couple and their subsequent meltdown, the result leaves a lot to be desired. Aside from Trier's' very obvious intention to shock he never manages to capture or map out the collapse of the couple. I thought this might be good with Willem Defoe definitely not the case. Not having any other characters also makes it difficult for the story to go anywhere. If it was possible to give an negative rating then this film would earn it. It is art house rubbish. Overall this is self-indulgent and over-clever and it replaces a story with scenes that merely serve to shock.
