The King's Speech
One of the finest movies of our time. - MicklesMe
For those who do not know, last year I was completely taken back and blown away by Inception. I personally believed it deserved every award under the sun. I was young and confused. I still believe Zimmer deserved best soundtrack as it is still a fantastic OST, and the story was original and fantastic. But where does this come into Kings Speech?
The two movies are completely different, and I can understand completely why it won best movie. It tells the true story of King George VI (Colin Firth) who has a speech issue, as he stutters and trips over his words. His wife (Helena Bonham Carter) finds him a speech therapist (Geoffrey Rush) who helps him conquer this issue.
For me, this summed up great movie making in a sense it filled me with emotion all the way trough. The script was attention grabbing and witty, and the story was immensely interesting. And to top it off, the last scene gives you the tingles and makes the hairs on your arms stand up, complimented with soem goosebumps. But there was more factors to this then just the film making.
The cast was pitch perfect. I found that everyone involved was coated for there respected part and acted like it was there last performance. Colin Firth deserved every compliment he received for this movie, and most certainly deserved his oscar. As for Geoffrey Rush, he was the person who stood out the most. I am now devastated he lost out to Christian Bale for best male support actor. He was fantastic! When he was happy, I felt happy, and when he was sad, I was sad. Weither it was his witty one liners or him being let down by a judging pannel as he is trying to recite his piece, every spec of emotion was brought out trough the screen, which isn't an easy thing to do.
I am not Ms. Burtons biggest fan, but she was surprisingly fantastic! She delivered every line perfectly and was practically made for that role. I will give credit when credit is due, I wil tap my hat off to her, but I personally believe the right person won best supporting actress (Melissa Leo)
Overall, a fantastic piece of film making which made you feel every sense of emotion within the two hour space. I would certainly call it a “must watch”.
I can honestly, it outshines Inception completely. Do you think it deserved to wipe the floor at the oscars? Do you think it was Firths finest? Let me know what you think.
