Good, but I wasnt blown away - Sarah
Its good to see a good Western in the year 2011, as I was beginning to think westerns were a thing of the past. This story of young Mattie Ross seeking justice for the murder of her father is brought to the screen by the infamous Cohen Brothers. Im not their biggest fan (by a long shot) but they really did put together a great movie, with a fantastic script. They found a star in Hailee Steinfeld, and Jeff Bridges' still got it.
Set in the heart of the wild west, young Mattie is desperate for the thief who shot her father to be brought to justice. She is a clever young one, well able to haggle her way to take care of her late father's affairs and she certainly wont be taken for a fool. Rooster, the local marshal with a reputation for bringing the outlaws in dead rather that alive, agrees to help young mattie for $100. When Mr. Le Beef enters the picture, the arrangements become a tad more complicated, but all Mattie wants is to find the man who killed her father.
Though certain aspects of the film really impressed me, individual acting performances and the script, for example, I wasnt blown away but the movie as a whole.
I also found the ending a little anti-climactic.
I can see why this would get the nod for a number of Oscars, and I certainly think Hailee Steinfeld should get an Oscar for best supporting actress, but other than that, I dont think they will get many.

In my opinion, if you want to watch a good Coen Brothers western, buy No Country for Old Men on DVD. It's a film that has everything this doesn't. Most importantly, a beginning, middle and an end. - Hanley
