127 Hours
I could feel his pain! - clairenln
Not only did this film make me wish never ever to become a canonyer or a climber but it also taught me a very valuable lesson. Always tell somebody where you're going! The film started off with chaos and crowds obviously showing us the typical crazy, busy world we live in, then it shows you the contrast to the mayhem. Quiet, open space in which the film proves that it is literally where no one can hear you scream. This film was amazingly created with some brilliant wide screen shots of the beautiful canyons showing just how small we mere humans really are and how gorgeous the world can be. The vast landscape was magnificent to look at, the film however made me thinks twice about ever going there. We watched Aron Ralston (James Franco) go on what looked like a typical day into the sandy wilderness. As he talks into the video camera he says that the journey he's supposed to be taking should take about 4 hours, however he plans to take 45 minutes off it, oh if he only knew what was in store for him in the coming future. As Aron says his goodbyes to his brief friendly encounter he quickly goes into his pit of doom. It's here we see one of James Franco's best work. Franco brought you in to Aron's mind with his confused faces and analytical looks. He really didn't have to say anything as somehow you knew exactly what Franco was thinking. The level of commitment we saw in Franco, only made you more sympathetic towards the character Aron. Yet even though hand was wedged between two rocks and he was on the verge of dying from dehydration you never actually thought that he would die. He seemed somewhat invincible. Now it may have been the hype around the film that made me think this, but even when he was hallucinating about becoming free, having a girl to love or being on a talk show not once did I think, this man is not going to make it.Then came the infamous arm cutting scene. It was extraordinarily realistic so much so that when he tried to cut through that nerve I felt a sickening twinge in my own arm. And as the high pitched guitar string screeched even higher and James Franco's face became more contorted with pain, my arm began to feel an even weirder feeling. The sheer strength that Aron would have had to have to not only break his arm but to also cut it free is astonishing and makes you wonder what on earth would you do if you were in that type of situation. Would you have the mind capacity to even think about cutting your arm off? Let alone actually doing it?
This by far is a Franco best and I wouldn't be surprised if he earned a few awards for his performance. It's one that people will definitely be talking about for a while.
