His and Hers
Sweet, sentimental and a little dull - muireann bernadino
I just dont understand all the hype and rave reviews this film has got. Yes, its not a bad little film but to state that that it 'cant recommended enough' and that it is 'best film for ages' is a bit over the top. This is a film portraying women of various age groups from the Irish midlands talking about their relationships with the men in their lives - fathers, boyfriends and husbands. While all the woman come across as being very natural, charming and down to earth, it soon becomes clear that this is not a representative sample of women from the midlands or anywhere else in Ireland for that matter. All the women appear to be content, financially secure home-makers. Of course there are plenty of women who fall into this category but there are plenty more who do not. Where are the women who are worried about paying the rent or who are in relationships that are challenging? What about prisoner's wives, women with alcoholic spouses, or women who are separated, not to mention the women who worry about their children for various reasons? Dont change the theme of women talking about their menfolk, it is a real runner. But bring in a more diverse group of women. It would be a lot more realistic and a great deal more interesting.
