The story of Carl Fredickersen, a grumply old man, this is absolutely brilliant stuff. Another top class pixar animation (and the animation is top drawer) it actually really excels itself in story terms. The introductory 15 - 20 minutes in which we see the story or Carls life culminating inteh death of his wife is touching stuff and wouldn't be out of place in an oscar winning drama. By the end of it, there's not a dry eye in the house and while some of it is heavy enough for a kids film it handles the theme of death really well. Carl (who bears a striking resemblance to Bertie Ahern) decides to set off and pursue their dream of living by Paradise Fallsin South America by attaching balloons to his house and floating down there. From here on in its turns a bit Roald Dahl (not a bad thing) as Carl travel towards his destination complete with an unwitting passenger. As they had southwards they encounter all sorts of colourful characters and get stuck into a good old fashioned adventure. Laughs as they come are not thighslapping but theres plenty of heartwarming fun. This is one for the collection and in my opinion, one of the best movies of the last 18 months
