when I first saw trailers for this film, I wondered in a cynical fashion if Pierce Brosnan could pull it off at all. I read the book several years ago and it's a thinly vealed indictment of Tony's Blair puppetry to the US government. How did Robert Harris not get sued? I wondered. Answer : because he pawned it off as fiction.
But I was pleasantly surprised. Pierce Brosnan played a convincing Blair, if his role wasn't a little thin on detail in other ways. Amelia, as played by Kim Cattral is a little older than you'd expect from the book's description but she manages to stop being Samantha from Sex in the City. And Ewan McGregor is brilliant as the bumbling ghost writer with no interest in politics. His reactions are exactly how someone without a background or upbringing in spy motifs would be. He uses grunts and sighs and mumbling under his breath to great effect. Roman Polanski uses the rain as a prop and to enhance the suspense. It's very good. A welcome distraction from all the other nonsense that's out at the moment.

Utter drivel - LMRKMAN
