Clever action thriller - Slick
A whole new slant on the revenge movie, this is clever stuff, and most of the time you're trying to figure out how this guy is doing it. The first half is tense and pacey, some memorable moments, then it tends to slow down and get somewhat tedious. Butler is excellent but maybe acts too much like an ordinary guy - you can't help feeling a more colourful character would have added a much needed extra dimension (a good-guy Hannibal Lecter!?!). Foxx unfortunately is once again the poor man's Denzel, and you kind of wish he'd go away. However the story is king here, ingenious if a little ponderous. We walked out at the end and the comments were "yeh good movie, right what'll we do now"...that's the kind of movie it is. Taughter script would have made it a classic - still good stuff :)
