Clash of the titans
This remake of the classic film of the same name is directed by Louis leterrier and stars Liam Neeson. The movie chronicles the son of Zeus' attempts to help prevent the Gods from passing judgement upon mankind after they deem them to be harbouring heretical intentions toward their creators.
Clash of the titans is 90 minutes long.
The term lord of the rings , Matrix and star wars syndrome can be applied to just about any summer film. These films thrive on their action/humour/visual effects alone and things such as acting (which ranges from acceptable to dreadful) , writing and plot are secondary to this . Clash of the titans does nothing to particularly break this mood and is as shallow as they come. The previously stated issues save for Neeson's noteworthy role are prevalent here. It is linear , tries to have a plot/pretends to have one when it doesn't really , it shows that no amount of glossing over can change the fact the film incredibly corny and perhaps close to or even more so than the original. All that said Clash of the titans is undoubtedly stunning to look at and while mediocre, with average action sequences , the Kraken (poster boy of the film) if nothing else is worth seeing and the idea of Greek mythology is interesting/appealing in itself if hardly original in any way.
Watching this movie however is an unfortunate reminder though that even though it is a beautiful thing to look at these are the very types of films that detract attention from stories with genuine heart or depth to them. For the better part this is a barely decent , ropey written film that most will only watch if they have little better to do or don't wish to challenge themselves . As the entertainment.ie reviewer mentioned though theres a fuss and hype over this now , in mere months no one will care anymore and for some that ambivalence will be with them throughout the full half hours in the cinema.
