Many years ago after seeing Blue Steel I was taken aback upon seeing this director of this tense kick ass little movie was in fact a woman. I just never remember a female director doing such a good job of a normally male driven realm of genre. From then on with films like Near Dark, Point Break and Strange Days she's shown that this action suspense genre is her domain. The Hurt Locker is Ms Bigelow at her leanest and sharpest directing and coupled with a fine script you get a film that sets a benchmark. Must see.
