Crazy Heart
AN OSCAR WAITING TO HAPPEN - foz_e_bear
Although the story has been read before, and Hollywood seems to love these at the moment, this is a fantastic piece of work. Isn't it great, being old is cool in Hollywood is cool at the moment? Eastwood, Caine, Gibson, Stalone, Rourke and now Bridges are all showing us that being a grumpy old hard-ass is the way to get the plaudits. Well Bridges deserves all the plaudits he can get, if he doesn't win that little golden accolade then I for one will be calling for a re-count. Bridges portrayal of 'Bad Blake' is a masterclass. He doesn't overcook it at all, his acting is natural and subtle and the slow paced story allows him to really get a grip on his character. The relationship between him and Gyllenhaal is well-played out, tender at times, and very believable. As I said there isn't anything new in the story and it's quite a slow pace, but that allows you to appreciate the acting and dialogue. It's peppered with catchy country throughout and Ryan Binghams lyrical talents add to the story. This is certainly a very entertaining and memorable rehash of the rags-to-riches-to-rags-to-riches story well worth the admission.
