Coco Before Chanel
A great show - slydon13
Though little is actually known about Coco Chanels early life, this story is in line with her character and annecdotes. It follows her from her abandonment by her father until she set up her shop in Paris. The main part of the story is set in her lovers country home where she began to mix with the rich and famous and experience the good things in life. The complication at the heart of the story is - how does a woman move towards financial independence, and perhaps that isn't any different now than at the turn of the century. She was the first to design unstructured garments, make leisure suits for women from jersey and aim for a comfortable chic. It leaves us eager for a second film about her life after her business became establishd, the many lovers and thrill of being at the centre of European fashion for 50 years.
