The Other Boleyn Girl
Drama! - Sarah
Phenomenal film!!!! The acting from Johannsan and Portman was powerfull. The character of Ann is likeable at first but as the film progresses we being to see what a manipulative woman she really is. The Boleyn sisters and brother were used as pawns by their father and especially their uncle in a play for power in England. Their futures were planned out for them at a very young age. First Ann was supposed to seduce the King, but when she ended up causing him to have an accident, the Uncle and father kick Ann out of the picture and thrust the newly married Mary into the Kings sights. Mary ends up providing the King with a much desired son, however the child is a bastard because the King is still married to Catherine of Aragon. Then the Uncle brings an educated Ann back from france and flaunts her infront of the King. The king eventually divorces Catherine and marries Ann who provids him with an heir ( the future Queen Elizabeth), but when she fails to provide him with a son she is accused of incest and treason and is beheaded along with her innocent brother. And if all that wasnt dramatic enough turns out the king really loved Mary all along. I enjoyed this movie way more than I thought I would. Another well made BBC drama, drama being the operative word here!!! I thought the cinematography was spot on, and the beautiful costumes deserve a nod too. Bana did make a convincing Henry even if his scenes were few and far between in my opinion. Kristen Scott Thomas also deserves some rcognition as the only voice of reason in the whole film, the Boleyn sister's mother. This film would be a good one for the Leaving Cert in my opinion!!!
