Sex Drive
Very funny film, immature but brilliant. - simonconnolly
Eighteen-year-old Ian Lafferty is a hopeless loser who is desperate to lose his virginity so that his best friend and butch brothers will leave him alone. He has tried and failed to woo his long time friend and girl of his dreams Felicia and he becomes less confident with every failed attempt. He is not able to impress any girls in person and he is constantly humiliated by his job at a mall donut shop but he has been talking to a girl on the internet who he has been using to practice his cool talk. The one night she tells him that is he travels cross county to her then she will sleep with him. Ian's best friend Lance convinces him to take up on Ms.Tasty's offer and after getting Felicia to take part in the journey they head off. They have to drive 500 miles from Chicago to Knoxville in just a few days. Egged on by Lance Ian risks life and limb by appropriating The Judge, his older brothers prized vintage Pontiac GTO. Car trouble, a stint in jail cell, a carriage tow and a brief stay with an Amish farmer (Seth Green) and an afternoon at a roadside carnival all complicate Ian's journey. He presses on, determined to get to Knoxville before Ms. Tasty gives up and goes home. Eventually they reach their destination but it turns out that Ms.Tasty is a con woman looking to steal and sell the rare car Ian arrived in. Rex (Ian's brother) shows up to get the car and everyone from their journey arrives to provide a very funny and slightly exciting ending. Sex Drive was by far the funniest film of last year. It came out at the same time as Role Models and despite being less known and having a cast of unknowns it easily triumphed over it. Hilarious film full of great gags, very funny quotes and hilarious and loveable characters. Josh Zuckerman is very impressive as main guy Ian. He's not the funniest guy in the film and doesn't get the best gags. The best jokes are give to other characters and Josh just gets in all the embarrassing and cringe worthy situations. Amanda Crew is also great as the beautiful and quirky Felicia. she is good as the love interest and has good chemistry with Zuckerman. The best of the group of friends is without a doubt Clarke Duke who plays Lance. Lance is the funniest movie character I have seen in a film since Derek Zoolander and he is actually quite similar to Jonah Hill in Superbad. He has the funniest lines, the funniest look and the funniest overall presence of the main characters. Seth Green however has the funnier presence in the whole film. He plays the helpful Amish man who loves sarcasm. His scenes were by far the most memorable and there is great scene during the end credits with him and Fallout Boy. He really is one of the funniest actors around today and I personally think that he is terribly underrated. David Koechner, aka Champ from Anchorman, has a great cameo appearance as a crazy hitchhiker. His cameo was short but still memorable and that is quite impressive. James Marsden was the only other cast member who was good. He plays Ian's brother Rex, a butch, homophobic and cruel brother who doesn't want his brother to "take it in the chilli ring". I have only seen him before in relatively serious roles but I think he should definitely consider taking on more comedy roles in the future as he is a very gifted comedian. The film is very well directed by Sean Anders. We don't get very powerful visuals but it is pretty well made. Every scene is done really well and a scene is never really stayed on for so long that it begins to drag. So all in all this is a very well made and extremely funny film which is definitely worth the watch and should definitely be chosen over other comedy films of late such as Role Models. I would really recommend it for comedy fans.
