Gripping and Sad - jennith
This film has received a lot of acclaim mainly due to Mickey Rourke performance which is stunning,this is a role he was born to play it is like art imitating life considering his fall from grace,however credit must be given to him as his performance is great.The Director must also get a lot of credit for capturing what it must be like for athletes and stars when their fame ends.Rourke plays Randy the Ram a wrestler who was a huge star in the 80s but now lives in a trailer park where he struggles to make the rent,works in a supermarket and takes part in fights in small venues to a few die hard fans earning very little cash,he also has a problem with steroids and painkillers,we are never told where all his money went but we can assume it was blown on the good life.The only person that He cares about is Cassidy a stripper who like Randy has seen better days,one day after a fight Randy gets a heartattack and decides he can not continue the way he is so he trys to make a start with Cassidy and reconcile with his daughter.Things go well for a while but unfortunatley Randy messes it up and decides that wrestling is all he has and he needs it regardless of what happens.This is a very real gritty no holds barred film we see Randy boss enjoy Randy misfortune as he was so jealous of him,This film captures all the heartache as we see cassidy trying to come to terms that she is too old to be a stripper the hurt that Randy caused his daughter and how Randy himself just cant stop himself from living in the past.This film is worth seeing for Rourke performance alone.
