Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans

The original Underworld movie wasn't great, but it did have a great idea of having a modern-set war between Werewolves and Vampires and having a sexy leading, kick-ass leather-pants wearing lady right in the thick of it. The sequel semi-suffered by trying to make take the whole thing more seriously than it had any right to be. And now we have the prequel, stretching out the back-story, and playing the whole thing so po-faced that it becomes laughable. The film isn't sure if it wants to be Spartacus (with werewolves and vampires) or Romeo & Juliet (with werewolves and vampires). And despite the best efforts of Michael Sheen (how unfortunate this was released on the same day as Frost/Nixon? Bye bye momentary credibility), Bill Nighy (hamming up a jitteringly angry storm) and Rhona Mitra (who, at times, seems to BECOME Kate Beckinsale), there is still no getting around the terrible dialogue, bad acting pacing and the fact that we already know how it's going to end. So even without the leather pants, its still pants.
