Les Triplettes de Belleville
Not for youngsters - Cyberx_94
Belleville Rendezvous Belleville Rendezvous is a French film conceived by Sylvain Chomet and also known as triplets of Belleville and Les Triplettes de Bellville, it tells the story of an elderly woman and her grandson preparing for the tour de France but soon gangster get involved and her grandson is captured. When my father took me to see this film when I was younger along with my friends who had expected to see Spirited Away our young hearts sank when he decided to take us to this movie , we were devastated , we couldn't stand it. Fast forward years later, I now understand having viewed the film as a mature viewer that I took it for granted as well as superb filmmaking . In my youth I was unable to appreciate the silent movie approach and Belleville's quirky visuals and even though the film is suitable for all , I feel most children and under 20 audiences are unlikely to appreciate it at all. The film is excellently scored , full of parody and lampoons not just Europe/France but America as well. Today I find myself loving the unusual appearance of the film and realise just how well animated it was. A superb , odd and amusing adult cartoon that well deserved its favourable reviews and awards , just don't expect the kids to enjoy it past the animation and even then there is a chance of it disturbing them. Though don't be put off by the film's unique nature , it really is quite enjoyable and is one of the better western animated films out there. A knowledge of French is not needed as the film has no real speaking in it and it does a good job of telling a story without the use of words. I am sorry that I ever insulted/judged this film so ignorantly in the past. Verdict ****
