Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Yesteryear's Heroes' Shaky Comeback - Pandabat
Harking back to my youth, the TMNTs have been around for some 18 odd years or more. I have to admit to enjoying switching off my brain after a week of school and tuning into the cartoon on The Den on a Friday evening, just before Jo-Maxi (remember that?). I even brought my younger brother to the original movie in 1990 and thought that was ok, but I think that might have been down to me having a thing for the April O'Neil of the day (roving reporter who covers all of the Turtles' news stories). No such dangers this time around though as we're taken to a CGI world where the animation is fine, where heroes are heroes but where the women are almost asexual. The story involves the TMNTs getting back together as a team after a period doing their own thing in order to battle with trans-dimensional monsters and investigate their connection with a mega-rich businessman and their old enemies "The Foot". The plot moves along as fast as it can and there are a few funny one-liners but overall it's a bland enough affair that's only ever heading in one direction and the action scenes are muted so as not to attract a rating that would prohibit children from seeing it. At least if you have to bring someone to it, the running time is a thankfully short 90 odd minutes but, be warned for the future, there are hints of a sequel at the end.
