One of the big problems everyone had - ourselves included - was just how devastating the ending to Man of Steel was.
The sight of Superman and General Zod destroying an entire city, turning Metropolis into a wrestling ring and killing thousands in the process, didn't exactly sit well with audiences - especially when the sight of skyscrapers falling into dust is a pretty recent memory for us all.
Of course, the reason people had problems with it was not because there was such needless destruction or collateral damage, it's because that same damage was being carried out by SUPERMAN. That, however, isn't enough for Man of Steel / Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice helmer Zack Snyder.
"I went, ‘Really?’ And I said, ‘Well, what about (The Force Awakens?' In Star Wars, they destroy five planets with billions of people on them. That’s gotta be one of the highest death toll movies in history, the new ‘Star Wars’ movie, if you do the math," argued Snyder in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal.
That might all be true, but the reality is that it wasn't Han Solo or Chewbacca destroying all those planets - it was the First Order and Domhnall Gleeson, so there's that. For his part, Snyder's fought back against some of the criticisms against Man of Steel and is going to have a helluva lot more to do when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice eventually opens. Already, the film is currently sitting at 32% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
