Dave Bautista has repeatedly expressed his unhappiness with working for Disney after they fired ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise writer-director James Gunn. The third instalment of the series has been put on hold, with Bautista saying it feels “pretty nauseating” to continue working for the company.

He has also threatened to quit the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ series altogether and only last weekend, on The Jonathan Ross Show, he confirmed that ‘GOTG 3’ is “on hold indefinitely”. He said “I don’t know if I want to work for Disney.”

We talked to Dave Batista ahead of the release of his new movie ‘Final Score’, in which he plays a veteran who must save 35,000 spectators at a football stadium when it comes under the attack of terrorists (awesome, right?).

With ‘Guardians 3’ on hold, he revealed to us what else he has in the pipeline.

“I’ll finish [shooting on] Avengers 4 and then it will come out next May,” he said, as his ‘GOTG’ character Drax will be making a return, in spite of being one of the characters who ‘died’ in ‘Infinity War.’

He continued: “I’ll have also just recently finished a film called ‘Stuber’, with a really brilliant actor called Kumail Nanjiani. So I’m really excited about that, I think I’m most excited about that, and then I’m doing more of a family film this year with a studio called STX, and that will be called My Spy.

“So that’s the immediate future, I’m working on a couple of other things. Hopefully next year will be a big year for me – it’s opened up a bit since they pushed back on ‘Guardians.’ Now I’m going to be focussed on filling up the year with other projects.”

While ‘My Spy’ sees Bautista play a hardened CIA operative, who finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl when he is sent undercover to spy on her family, ‘Stuber’ will be a buddy movie with Nanjiani (best-known for hit rom com ‘The Big Sick’) playing a mild-mannered Uber driver whilst Bautista plays a grizzled cop on the trail of a brutal killer.

“It’s a really good, funny film,” Bautista added. “It’s an action-comedy, and there’s good action in it as well. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s hysterical – I’ve seen some of the outtakes, it’s so funny! I really hope it’s a big hit.”

Bautista’s next film, ‘Final Score’, hits Irish cinemas and Sky Cinema this Friday, September 7th.
