Angelina’s Jolie’s latest directorial outing looks at the horrors of the Cambodian Genocide, but it’s possible that the release on the film on Netflix willl be haunted by rumours related to controversial casting methods for the film, even if they have supposedly been cleared up since.

The feature is based on the memoir of Loung Ung and follows her younger self as she experiences the horrific Cambodian genocide and the Khmer Rouge regime first-hand.

First They Killed My Father was shot in Cambodia and used a local cast of actors who spoke the Khmer language.

The trailer for the movie has been released on Netflix, on which it will be available from September 15th.
